Deeper Breaths - The Yellow Team

You taught me this lesson a thousand times
And there was something off about the way that you were looking at me
Like you were just out of reach like you were trying to tell me
That if you had to spend another night a summer alone
That you would be gone when I got home
Sometimes I study our rise and our fall
And I think I found a way to fix where I went wrong
And make it breathe the way it did
With deeper breaths like when we were kids

To never put another thousand miles
Between you and me it makes it hard to believe
That there’s any good in anything
I know I should’ve been there
To be your solid ground on an unstable summer
I know I should’ve been there
To help you keep your balance before I went to college
As the tightrope of your life was loosing tension
All you asked me for was some attention

You taught me this lesson a thousand times to never put another thousand miles
Between you and me it makes it hard to believe that there's any good in anything
Let’s face the elephant in this room
Because I know I was never your safest bet
Flying higher than ever on your trapeze
And I wasn’t there to be your safety net
So now you’re bringing up past regrets
How I was different on the night we met
I know you keep telling me that you’ve forgiven me
But an elephant never forgets
